Turning Ideas Into Action: My Reflection on Winning the LaunchPad Competition
When I started my MBA at Bond University, I had a clear plan. I figured the program would give me the foundational skills and frameworks needed to build a business down the track, somewhere safely after graduation.
I didn't expect it to happen right now, right from the inside out.
Last semester, I stood on stage at the Bond University Transformer LaunchPad Competition. By the end of the competition, I was incredibly thrilled to be selected as the winner.
Holding that award was an amazing milestone. But as I look back on the experience, the real victory happened long before I ever stepped under those stage lights.
Under the Microscope
Taking a business idea out of your head and putting it out into the world is intimidating. Putting your business and your personal brand under a microscope is even harder.
That is exactly what the Transformer program forced me to do.
Before the pitch, the program pushed me to face my gaps and break down my concepts. Through world-class coaching, I was able to stress-test my ideas and build the deep confidence needed to actually execute them. My coach, Brigid Davey-Skelton, was there every single step of the way, helping me refine my vision.
The process taught me that a business plan is just a theory until you test it against reality. Stepping onto that stage allowed me to do just that, and the invaluable feedback I received from the judges will challenge my business to keep evolving.
The Power of the Cohort
While winning was an honor, the true highlight of the experience was the community. I was surrounded by a cohort of exceptionally talented founders.
Watching their presentations, listening to their ideas, and learning from their unique journeys was inspiring. Entrepreneurship can feel lonely, but being part of a room filled with that much drive changes your perspective.
What Comes Next
I am deeply grateful to our judges—Stuart Giles, Morgahna Godwin, and George Cary—for their insights. I also want to thank our Transformer Coordinators, Jodie Siggers and Ryoko Sparks, for hosting such an impactful event.
Now, the real work begins. I am exciting to reinvest the prize funding directly back into the business to fuel my next phase of growth.
If you are a student sitting on a business idea, waiting for the perfect time after graduation to build it, my advice is to stop waiting. Programs like Transformer are designed to help you extract massive value from your current skills and experiences right now.
You don't just have to learn about business in a classroom. You can build a profitable one in-house.
