The Art of Going In Blind: Why the Best Moves Are The Ones You Don’t Overthink
My biggest moves as an adult have shared a common theme: I went in blind. No scouts, just a gut feeling and a willingness to trust the process.
After college, I moved to San Diego without having visited it once as an adult. I had been accepted into the Navy Marine Mammal Program, and I took the leap without knowing the first thing about what life in Southern California actually looked like.
More recently, I did it again. This time moving to the Gold Coast of Australia. Having never set foot on this side of the world, it was a massive leap of confidence into the absolute unknown.
What these "blind moves" taught me is that location is only half the battle. No matter where you land, it is entirely up to you to make the most of it. Growth doesn't happen because of the zip code; it happens because you choose to put yourself out there, meet new people, and stay open to the unexpected.
But now, for the first time, I’m doing things differently. I am making an informed decision.
As I travel through different parts of Australia and weigh my options for life after my MBA, I’ve reached a genuine fork in the road. The decision-making process feels new, but the prospect of starting fresh, if that’s where the path leads, is familiar. Whether I stay or go, the mission remains the same: exploring a new home, building fresh connections, and trusting the process every step of the way.
