3 Skills To Level Up Your Public Speaking

Three skills to level up your public speaking. Practice, focus, and energy. Practice your lines until they become second nature, until they become like you're singing your favorite song. It's so important to practice your lines with the same level of enthusiasm, the same tone of voice, and inflection that you would use in the show. That way it becomes sort of a muscle memory. Practicing in all different sorts of scenarios is so important.

In front of the mirror, in front of your family, in front of your friends, when you're out in public, when you're driving a car, when you're multitasking. Practice your lines when you are doing random things so that when random things happen to you in a show, you're able to handle them and continue saying your lines without pause. This leads into focus.

Focus is so important when there are so many variables happening during a show. You never know what to expect. You have to continue to say your lines when the most random things happen.

Focusing is so important when it comes to multitasking. When you're confident as a talker, it's so fun to be able to work with an animal at the same time that you're speaking on the microphone. Now it's so important to make sure that you are watching out for any safety concerns, being focused on your animal as well, and saying your lines without hesitation.

Another important part of focus is making sure that you're watching out for other trainers messing with you. Now we love to have fun, and of course I've had many instances where a trainer will look back at me and make some sly comment or, you know, poke me as they're walking by me, and I'll just have to maintain my composure and continue to say the lines without bursting out into laughter.

And finally, most importantly, energy. Energy is so important because the audience feeds off you. Now if you are standing up straight with good posture, you're using your hands to try to convey your message, and you're walking with intention, it really conveys a strong message to your audience. It's so important, especially in those days when the crowds are thin, to bring that energy and make every single show count.

You may think that energy comes from being confident, but that's not true. The more that you stand up straight, have good posture, and bring that energy, the more you feel confident, and it shows. So practice, practice, practice, focus, and bring that energy.

This will level up your public speaking skills to be SeaWorld Show level ready.
